The Lamont Wind Ensemble presents “The Dream and the Dreamer,” a powerful musical celebration honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Black History Month. In partnership with the Black American West History Museum and Heritage Center, the evening features historical reenactments between musical selections and a pre-concert display of artifacts in the Hamilton Hall lobby. Vocalist Tatiana Mayfield Brown (also known as “LadyMay”) joins the ensemble for premieres of her own works newly arranged for winds, and M. Roger Holland, II and the Spirituals Project lend their voices to this uplifting program. The centerpiece is Holland’s The Dream and the Dreamer, arranged especially for the Lamont Wind Ensemble, weaving together music and history in a stirring tribute to hope, justice, and community.

Nermis Mieses is the Associate Professor of Oboe at Michigan State University and faculty at the Sewanee Summer Music Festival. She has received prizes at the prestigious Barbirolli International Oboe Competition, the First International Oboe Competition in Santa Catarina, Brazil, and the Matthew Ruggiero International Woodwind Competition.
As part of her research interests, she continues to champion repertoire from the iconic French oboist-composer, Gilles Silvestrini, as well as music from underrepresented composers. She is frequently featured in universities, conservatories, chamber music series, and as a presenter at the IDRS conferences.
Equally dedicated to ensemble playing, she spent nine seasons as Principal Oboe of the Michigan Opera Theatre and has collaborated with symphony orchestras such as Detroit, Ann Arbor, Sphinx, ProMusica Chamber, and the Michigan Philharmonic. Internationally, she has performed with Camerata… .

The Mendelssohn Trio (Erik Peterson, violin; Barbara Thiem, cello; Bryan Wallick, piano) was formed in 1988 and is named for Thiem's great grandfather Franz von Mendelssohn, a nephew of Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy and an important supporter of artists and musicians in the Berlin of the early 20th century. The trio is in residence at Colorado State University where they give frequent concerts and work with the students on chamber music projects.
In addition to concerts in the US the trio has performed on five tours to several European countries including Germany, Austria and Switzerland. In 2012 their concerts included an appearance at the International Mendelssohn Festival in Berlin. The plans for a tour in May 2026 include a program of women composers from the US and Europe. Among other venues they will be playing at the Mendelssohn Museum in Berlin and the Mendelsohn Haus in Leipzig as well as for the Maria-Anna-Mozart-Gesellschaft in Salzburg. …

Lamont Colloquium is a forum for Lamont students, faculty, and staff to present scholarly projects they have developed in the course of their studies, and share them with the broader Lamont community. It is designed to simulate the experience of presenting at an academic conference. The format for each speaker is a 20-minute scripted presentation, followed by ten minutes for questions. Topics may be anything connected with music: Past presentations have been on topics as diverse as representation of Georgian music in Sid Meier’s Civilization, metric structures in Spanish vihuela music, and issues in twentieth-century Balinese gamelan angklung. Students often use this experience as a stepping-stone to presenting at a regional chapter conference like SMT/AMS/SEM.

Based in New York City, Lynnli Wang is a performer, teacher, and diversity and inclusion arts advocate. She currently serves as the carillonneur of the Riverside Church, where she plays its 100+ ton, 74-bell carillon. Join pianist Stephanie Cheng and percussionist Michael van Wirt for an electrifying evening of chamber music featuring guest performers Naomi Niskala (piano) and Mike Tetreault (percussion). The program includes Bartók’s groundbreaking Sonata for Two Pianos and Percussion, a 20th-century masterpiece of rhythm and texture. Also on the program is Michael Daugherty’s Lounge Lizards, a playful and jazz-infused work that blurs the lines between classical and popular styles.
