Tidal Loop: A Gallery Exhibition by Meagan Smith & Allyce Wood  9:00am-5:00pm, EWU Art Gallery, Eastern Washington University Gallery of Art is pleased to present the exhibition Tidal Loop February 17 through April 2, 2026. This exhibition features woven textile works by Chicago-based visual artist Meagan Smith and Seattle, WA-based visual artist Allyce Wood. An opening reception and lecture by Meagan and Allyce will be held on Tuesday, February 17th at Noon. Tidal Loop brings together the practices of Meagan Smith and Allyce Wood, two artists whose work explores rhythm, perception, and the fluid intelligence of craft. Through handwoven and digitally informed textiles, Smith translates sensory experience, movement, and vibration into shimmering fields of color and pattern that echo the unseen forces shaping our environment. Biology Research Showcase

Ecology at home and abroad: Biology students share research from Montserrat, BWI and Turnbull Laboratory for Ecological Studies, Monday, March 16 at 11:30 am – 2 pm, Students from three courses—Senior Capstone in Tropical Ecology, Montserrat Research, and Conservation Biology—will present their research at a symposium highlighting ecology both close to home and abroad. Local research took place at the Turnbull Laboratory for Ecological Studies (TLES), while international work was conducted in Montserrat, British West Indies. In early January, students and faculty from the EWU Biology Department traveled to Montserrat to study tropical disease ecology, coral reefs, frogs, and fishes. This trip marked the Biology program’s inaugural study-abroad experience, and we pressed forward despite global geopolitical challenges. Meanwhile, back in Cheney, students deployed and monitored trail cameras to assess mammalian diversity at TLES. Visit of Dr. Yvonne P. Sherwood

Dr. Yvonne P. Sherwood is an Indigenous scholar (Spokane and Coeur d’Alene), educator, and community-engaged researcher whose work bridges Indigenous governance, land-based education, and social justice. She currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Sociology at the University of Toronto Mississauga (Canada), where she teaches Indigenous Legal Orders and Anti-Colonial Methodologies. In 2023–2024, she was Washington State University’s Professor of Indigenous/Native American Law and Policy in the Department of Politics. Her research centers Indigenous governance, language reclamation, food sovereignty, and collaborative models grounded in relational accountability. A proud alumna of Eastern Washington University and a McNair Scholar, Dr. Sherwood’s intellectual path was shaped by the transformative power of federally funded access programs and interdisciplinary fields such as Ethnic Studies and Feminist Studies.
