Forest Hope Through Innovations Tour at the World Forestry Center

Ecologies of Care, environmental art by Reed Professor Juniper Harrower, is in display at Portland’s World Forestry Center’s Forest Hope Through Innovation exhibit through August 2. The exhibit is an interdisciplinary art-forest-science exploration of how creativity, research, and community action can shape a sustainable future for the forests we rely on. Featuring work by more than twelve innovators, the exhibition highlights the aesthetics of emerging forest-based research—from technology and engineering to design and artist-scientist collaborations. On Saturday, July 18, 1 p.m. Reedies in Arts & Expression, Reedies in Sustainability, and the Portland alumni chapter are co-hosting a trip for a guided tour of the exhibit. Portland Annual Alumni Picnic

This is a great opportunity to meet other Reedies in the Portland area! Picnic in the Park! - Chicago Alumni Chapter

Location: Jay Pritzker Pavilion, Millennium Park -, Madison St & Michigan Ave, The concert begins at 6:30. We will meet where Madison Street and an imaginary line to the stage meet at right angles, near the back of the park. (They don't allow signs!) Shakespeare in the Park

Boston Alumni Chapter at Boston Common: Shakespeare in the Park, Join the Boston Alumni Chapter for this year's showing of Shakespeare in the park—Midsummer's Night Dream. The only matinee show is on August 9th at 1:30 p.m. This event is "free" though they do solicit donations, you don't have to give if you can't. RSVP using the form in the Chapters email; if you include a phone number then Eve and Gray, who are hosting and arriving at 12:30 p.m. will text you to coordinate finding the group. 4th Annual Picnic & Swim at Fern Ridge

Join South Willamette Valley Alumni Chapter for the 4th Annual Fern Ridge Potluck & Swim! What began as a simple summer gathering has officially become a tradition - an evening of swimming, music, games, poetry, food, libations, and community by the water. We’re excited to gather once again with familiar faces and new friends for a relaxed, kid-friendly evening at Shore Lane. We’ll have drinks, floaties, party games, and plenty of space to swim, lounge, sing, and connect. Swimming is entirely optional, but songs, instruments, poetry, and homegrown music are enthusiastically encouraged! Feel free to bring a favorite reading about water or join in singing as the sun sets over the lake. The food spread is always wonderful, so please bring a potluck dish to share, along with your own swim gear (swimsuit, towel, life jacket, water shoes, etc.). Pack it in, pack it out! Mountain Music Fest - Denver Alumni Chapter

Location: Buchanan Park - 32003 Ellingwood Trail, Evergreen, CO 80439, Join fellow Reedies at Mountain Music Fest on Aug. 16, Gather with fellow alumni to attend the annual Mountain Music Fest in Evergreen on the afternoon (and evening) of Sunday, Aug. 16. Tickets can be purchased online at https://mountainmusicfest.org/ for $32.46 — if you get them by July 15. After that, the price increases by $10. Alumni Softball + Potluck

Before summer ends come play softball & enjoy a potluck picnic at Reed. We'll play Chicago style 16 inch softball, equipment provided. You just need to bring a food and drink item to share. Eliot Award Lecture by Amelia Hard '67: "Reflections on Food, Activism, James Beard, and a Public Market in Portland"

"Reflections on Food, Activism, James Beard, and a Public Market in Portland" Amelia Hard '67 looks back on 40 years as an anti-hunger activist in Portland's food community and on the decades-long effort to create a public market in Portland celebrating the legacy of James Beard. Chef, restaurateur, educator, and hunger-fighting advocate, Amelia Hard '67 has spent over 40 years working within Oregon's food community. For eleven years, she and her husband Fred ran Genoa, one of Portland’s most influential restaurants, and played a central role in establishing Portland’s reputation as a food mecca and a trendsetter in the farm-to-table movement. She also volunteered with the anti-hunger nonprofit Share our Strength and for ten years chaired an annual Portland fundraiser for hunger relief under their auspices.  After selling Genoa, she taught cooking classes and established a nutrition education program at Oregon Food Bank using local chefs as volunteer cooking instructors for Portlanders on food… Organization: Alumni Relations. This is a chance to visit an otherwise inaccessible beach on the coast, eat top-tier meals (including fish prepared by Meat Smoke and fresh crab caught by alumni), watch shooting stars, and splash in a bioluminescing ocean. , Westwind is not a programmed weekend; outside of mealtimes with other Reedies, your time is your own.
